Middle School Production Brimming with Talent

Image

St. John's International school is known for its professional level Musical Theatre productions. No sooner had the High School finished working on GREASE then it was time for the younger actors to take center stage.

What an exciting moment to be in the Middle School!  Seventy-one students auditioned for ‘13 The Musical’ by Jason Robert Brown. How will this be possible with the current restrictions?

THE OUT OF THE BOX
‘13 The Musical’ is the story of a boy whose life gets uprooted when he unexpectedly must move to another city. As the new kid, he has to navigate the joys and sorrows of life as a teenager, decide who he wants to be and make new friends at the same time…. A challenge familiar to most International School kids and their families.

Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty Queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that feel like they will last a lifetime. It’s a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

We once again have our ‘dream team’ working on the production. Mr. Graham as director and choreographer, Mr. Zadow as Musical Director and Madame Demoutiez as assistant director. They were overwhelmed by the level of talent in all three grades and could easily have cast the show three times over. Due to COVID restrictions, this has become the reality. Each of the year groups is considered a bubble and they cannot rehearse in the same space as the other years. Masks, ventilation, social distance and separation have not diminished the unstoppable enthusiasm and commitment of the kids and creative team.

THE PERFORMANCE
The plan is for each grade to present a showcase in some form this June with the full musical to take place in the Spring of 2022. Watch this space!
