Tennis ISST's hosted by St. John's!

Calling all tennis lovers,

St John's is proud to be hosting this year's ISSTs, from 24-26 May at Wimbledon tennis complex in Rhode Saint Genese. Part of that responsibility is to provide court monitors during the championship. If you have some free time and would like to see some great tennis from the best seat in the house, please contact the Athletics Department (ddavis@stjohns.be, pgietz@stjohns.be).

The players keep their own score, so each monitor needs only to keep an eye on proceedings over two courts and in the event that something untoward happens, for example an injury, then the monitor informs the tournament director who is on hand to answer any questions that may arise during play. Our job as the host is to simply provide an adult presence courtside.

Please consider giving up an hour or two of your time. It will help make the tournament a great success and will be greatly appreciated by our tennis team.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you.

Preben Gietz
Athletic Director Assistant – St. John’s Academy Coordinator

New website launching soon

We will be launching a new website in the next month, with a similar feel but a different look. The new website was developed by staff members from the different divisions within the school and is in the final phase of development and testing. Several parents will be contacted to test the site and provide feedback prior to launch. The site will be more user-friendly and dynamic and will have some new and improved features.

Urgent help needed - The Wind in the Willows

Dear Parents
AS you know, we are rehearsing The Wind in the Willows and the production is at the end of May and June 1st. We are urgently needing some assistance with the following costume items and props. If you can possibly help us with any of these items, please get in touch with Anne Mason and or Stephanie Wintjes as soon as possible. We desperately need: a pair of riding boots (approx. size 39, 40), white jodphurs; a magistrate’s wig; scarves, mittens and woolly knitted hats in natural colours; plastic pumpkins, squashes, gourds (autumn harvest veges); old-fashioned metal shoe-scraper (called a door-scaper?) an old wheelchair; an old bookcase, a potbellied stove, a cooker (as in make-believe play furniture, but not too small….approx. real size…) Thanks for your help!
Anne Mason (Drama) and Stephanie Wintjes (Art) , Middle School teachers.

Have you signed up for the Relay for Life yet?

In 5 weeks St Johns will be hosting Relay For Life – June 2-3. This promises to be a fantastic event to raise funds and awareness for cancer. If you are not yet involved here is how you can:
Celebrate Survivorship: anyone who has heard the words, “you have cancer” is a survivor at Relay – come celebrate by participating in the Opening Ceremony and taking the first relay lap with fellow survivors!
Form a Team: organize 10-15+ people (friends, family, work/classmates or organization) to be a Relay team. Coordinate fundraising efforts, plan for your ‘club house’ and team uniform/costume. Register before 7 May.
Volunteer: volunteer during the 24 hours of Relay, work during a specific shift, with a specific activity or in general helping with coordination on the day.
