The St. John’s Varsity Darts student team and the vinyl club ‘In the Groove’ are combining forces to run this year’s second-hand book sale on Thursday October 12th. The sale will take place in the sports foyer during the Parent Teacher Conferences.
The group will accept any old books, cd’s, vinyls (records) and dvd’s. Items can be left at reception or at HD03. Please contact Mr. Macdonald if you have any further questions.
This week’s focus for the grade 8 students in science was to see how chemical reactions leads to chemical changes. Their quest is to find out evidence to confirm that a chemical reaction has occurred. Students observed various chemical reactions and made note of their observations. They saw how calcium and water react to form bubbles, the release of hydrogen gas and finally turning into a cloudy milky while solution. They also observed how magnesium metal strips burned with a bright white light before turning into white magnesium oxide powder.
This trip was planned for all the 27 students in IBHL/SL 11th and 12th grade visual art classes to visit the Vanhaerent’s art collection in Brussels and MIMA. The aim of this trip, and others, is to encourage students to discover and access the rich artistic and cultural resources from around the world that they can encounter in Brussels, and to assist them to develop an understanding of Art through direct investigation of primary sources.
