Dennis Davis
Athletic Director

Welcome to the St. John’s Athletic Department—home of the Lions! See the STJ Sports Weekly here.

We are committed to a program that encourages a winning “spirit,” for which we are well-known on the international schools circuit. Our athletes travel extensively around Europe, and St. John’s families host hundreds of visiting athletes each year. In this way, our students and their families have the opportunity to participate in a fun and rewarding program, which also promotes their physical, emotional and social well-being.

"As a school, we have a reputation for encouraging our student-athletes of all ages to achieve their full potential, and we succeed through our comprehensive program, excellent facilities and our dedicated coaching staff."

St. John’s is a full member of the International School Sports Tournament (ISST) organization. There are 16 full-member schools and 7 non-full member schools in this league (23 schools total). We also encourage our student-athletes to integrate in the local sports community.

St. John’s offers nine competitive sports across Middle and High School: cross country, soccer and volleyball in the fall; basketball and swimming in the winter; and baseball, softball, tennis and track and field in the spring. Outside of these core sports, we offer an extensive intramural after-school activity program for students of all ages.

St. John’s has seen amazing success, with 48 championships, and 57 second and 44 third places at ISSTs. We are indeed a winning school!

We encourage all parents to be active members of our program, from supporting our athletes at home and away games, to working with our Athletic Booster Program (click here to learn more), which does a tremendous job in raising funds to supplement our department with those “extras” that set us apart from other international schools.

I encourage you to visit our wonderful sports facilities. My office door is always open to you, and I will be more than delighted to answer any questions you may have.

St. John's was awarded the Eddie Huffard plate award for 2014-15 and 2015-16 as the highest ranking small ISST school (considering MS/HS enrolment)! St. John's ranks 5th out of 23 schools in Europe and the Middle East in the overall standings. The American School in London is ranked first, ASH second and Cobham, TASIS and St. John's round out the top 5.  The plate is awarded to "the ISST school that reflects the high standards of sporting excellence that has always been a fundamental principle of ISST participation."
