Psychomotricity

Psychomotricity is the development of motor, expressive and creative possibilities through the body. It has been associated with the idea of the mind-body relationship. Creating a base with young children on the relationship between the psyche and motor will help adapt school age children to their environment, and have a healthier life. The continued practice of sports, games, play and movement activities will be designed to promote physical literacy and build self-confidence. Kids learn best when they’re having fun, and kids have fun when they’re at the top of their game and motivated!

Basketball (3-6 Monday)

This weekly clinic is designed to introduce and improve the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, passing, and shooting. Skill development will be achieved through fun games and challenges with a focus on fostering strong team work. All abilities and levels will be catered for.  Coach Nick Payne brings an extensive knowledge of the game of basketball, with over 20 years’ experience from the US College system, and the South East Australian Basketball League.

Basketball (K-2 Wednesday)

An introduction to the game of basketball. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of the game through fun, enjoyable modified games to suit all levels of skill. Smaller basketballs and hoops will be used to accommodate the younger children. Parents are welcome to participate with their children whenever possible to further enhance the experience and help their child develops the skills of the game.

ES Choir

We are learning how to warm up our voices before singing and how to use our muscles to sing in some different and fun ways. We play a lot of vocal games and we sing a large variety of songs in 2 voices. We will perform our music at some of the School Assemblies. If you like to sing and if you would like to discover some new musical games please join us on Mondays after school!

Dance Mini-video Clip (1-2 Monday)

On popular music the children learn simple dance movements implemented in short dances.  At the same time the pupils are encouraged to inspire the dance course with own ideas. Last term the children had lots of fun with the exercise “strike a pose”.  Inspiration from musicals, movies and idols for their age will be implemented in the dance lessons. Free Movement is suitable for boys and girls from grades 1 and 2 who enjoy dancing and like to use their imagination. Comfortable clothing and a water bottle, but most of all: a positive energy and a smile.

Dance Video Clip (3-5 Monday)

During the video-clip dancing classes we focus on movements that are used in video-clips of popular music that we see on TV channels like for example MTV, TMF and JIM TV. We will have a look at a wide variation of music artists and their moves, from Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga. The purpose of video-clip dancing is to learn the dance movements that we see in popular music video-clips. During the course children will be stimulated to come up with own ideas and suggestions. Video- Clip Dancing is suitable for boys and girls from grade 3, 4 and 5 who enjoy dancing on the music hits from the past and today and who would like to perform like the pop stars and dancers as we see on TV. Comfortable clothing and a water bottle, but most of all: a positive energy and a smile.

Dance Academy (3-5 Tuesday and/or Thursday)

Are you passionate about series and documentaries such as “Dancing Mums”? Do you wish to become a more advanced dancer? Are you willing to train on a more rigorous level to achieve this? The course ‘Dance Academy’ is for you. Be prepared to train on a higher level dance techniques, in which condition, stretching and dynamic movements will be the core of the lesson.
We will learn the same and/or similar choreographies popular from the series “Dancing Mums”. Performances will take place during the school year. Students who have the ambition and the discipline can be prepared for dance competitions from next year on. Participants should be physically in a good shape to work on an advanced level of dance training. Engagement and motivation are a must! Water bottle, comfortable clothes, dance uniform to be discussed in class with the teacher.

Dance Academy (6-8 Tuesday and/or Thursday)

You have a true passion for dance and want to challenge yourself to improve your dance skills on a more rigorous level? Be prepared to train on a higher level dance techniques, in which condition, stretching and dynamic movements will be the core of the lesson. Students are encouraged to work together in the creation of choreographies and exploring different styles of dance and how to connect these with each other.

We recommend that Dance academy courses should be followed on both days to improve the condition and skills of the students.

Pottery

If you love making sculptures, animals, people, cups, pots, plates or tiles in clay, this club is for you! Students will work on various projects and learn the fundamentals of pottery. They will have fun making their own objects in clay, colour them with special glazes and fire them in a ceramic kiln. There are many benefits to modelling activities. Manipulating clay stimulates children’s imagination, relieves stress, develops fine motor skills and promotes creative problem- solving skills. You will enjoy creating with Miss B!

HS Art

If you are a high school student who is interested in developing a personal creative project in the art or you are looking for a project for CAS creativity and want to explore either drawing, painting, printmaking, digital photography, ceramics, sculpture, collage architectural model-making or mixed media or you would like to get involved in a group project or to design and paint a large scale mural around school then come to art club on Monday after school in the art studio and explore your ideas and imagination.

Soccer

One of the most popular team game sports where each player will work and progress on his own individual skills but also will learn, have fun and work within a team. The sessions will start with a warm up, specific exercises to reinforce the basics (control, passes, running) and will finish with a little match to work on positioning during a game. The goal for this activity is to work and progress on their skills, strategies and basic rules of football in a fair-play environment. The purpose is to play with St John's friends and have a lot of FUN.

Swimming (1-12 Tuesday and/or Friday)

Swimming lessons from basics to competitive swimming. The lessons are open to anyone wishing to improve their swimming skills. The main goal of this programme is to further the knowledge of swimming and to give students a comfortable posture while swimming. We welcome students starting in 1st grade until 12th. Open to anyone even with no swimming background. You will need a swim suit (one piece for girls, no shorts for boys), a swimming cap, goggles and a towel. The bus leaves school at 3.45 for the Waterloo swimming pool and parents will collect their child at the pool for 5.20.

Instrumental Ensemble

Last year, the newly formed Grade 1 Percussion Band proved to be a great success with many of our young students enjoying being part of a large group of musicians. This year, the group will be extended to Grades 1, 2 and 3 including other orchestral instruments to allow children who have already played in the band to continue and for new students to join. In this group, children enjoy learning to play a variety of tuned and un-tuned musical instruments such as xylophones, glockenspiels and marimbas. They learn different playing techniques, read music notation and work together by developing their listening skills and following a conductor. We practice a range of musical styles and work towards a performance later in the school year. Most of all though, we have a lot of fun!

Multi Sports

Students will enjoy learning/improving multiple sports such as soccer, basketball and handball skills during this activity.  This is a non-competitive, fun way to enjoy practicing different sports. We will encourage teamwork while also improving individual skills. The last session will feature a tournament.

Floor Hockey

Floor Hockey activities for any level, beginners to advanced. Floor hockey is a great learning tool for hand-eye coordination. Students will improve their technical skills while learning to play as a team. Students will play games each week as well as learn new skills.

Arts & Crafts (1-5 Wednesday & Friday)

Students will create different things with different materials such as puppet making, art design and much more…Be creative!

Wall Climbing

Climbing uses lots of muscle groups, both in the upper and lower body. Your back, abdominal and leg muscles all get exercised as well as your fingers, shoulders and arms. Regular climbing can improve stamina as well as muscle strength. In addition, all the reaching and stretching for holds improves flexibility and agility. Each climbing route is like a puzzle, which requires patience, planning, and analysis to complete. Beginners will typically work out their ascent as they go up, but with experience they learn to visualize their climb and spot tricky sections before reaching for their first hold. Over time, regular wall climbing can help develop concentration, determination and problem-solving skills.

Fit, Fun & Run

Fit, Fun and Run is an extension of the Just RUN club, commencing last year. The goal is to run 3 -5 km. Building on its success, we will include fitness, its components and having fun (through games). Weather permitting, we will also continue to run outside. Exercise for kids is playing and being active. Kids who are active will: have stronger muscles and bones, have a leaner body because exercise helps control body fat, be less likely to become overweight, have a better outlook on life. Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better. They're also better able to handle physical and emotional challenges from running to catch a bus to studying for a test.

Zumba Dance

Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. The choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo. Pretty much the most awesome workout ever. Dance to great music, with great people, and burn a ton of calories without even realizing it. It is Fun and children love it.  Coach Allie Boram is certified in Zumba Kids (7-11 years old) and Zumba Kids Jr (3-6).

French Club

If you want to learn/practice your French, come to the French Club where we will have different kind of activities such as board games, outdoor games, cooking classes, and some other activities.  The purpose is to use your French knowledge and to gain more while having fun.
